Had amazing tour with two Profs. who know the place backwards : Jose de Nordenflycht Concha and his mate: Jose Llano Loyola
City is joined to another called Vina del Mar : modern resort, so together maybe population of Gold Coast (600,000) with FIVE OR SIX ARCHITECTURE SCHOOLS !!!
Anyway, Valparaiso itself is amazing ramshackle combination of inventiveness, cheek-by-jowl stuff, clinging onto hillsides beyond even Hollywood Hills degree of ingenuity – and some surprises.
The more modern stuff got in on the act, the most amazing is this winding road between social housing(green stripes) done in the 1940s and just next to it a bit of housing from the 1960s with fearless constructivist ramp/bridge access(red, pink, purple) and at the other end of town some syline-y social housing…
Couldn’t resist sending more funky stuff ….of which there is more, more, more.
What a weird place, but my lecture has to acknowledge some affinities ? No?
